Gilbert Herrera Marquez JR

Gilbert H Marquez Jr, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He passed away on March 17th, 2025 at the age of 74. Gilbert was known for his love of family, his dedication to service, and his passion for sports.
Gilbert was born on March 2, 1951 and a long time resident of San Bernardino California. Gilbert grew up with a love for the game of baseball and softball which he also coached fastpitch softball for many years with the San Bernardino Stars and other teams. Softball and Baseball were a passion and enjoyment he carried throughout his life.
After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on October 26, 1971. He was a first Sergeant and was stationed in Germany. Gilbert served as a soldier with honor, pride and a commitment to his country.
Gilbert was a proud father to his son Gilbert H Marquez lll, his daughters Illeen Sanchez and Jessica Potenciano. He was also cherished as a grandfather to Salina Soto, Reyliene Marquez, Zachary Marquez, Madison Marquez, Ernest Yglesias, Anaya Yglesias, Nathen Potenciano and Olivia Potenciano. He was also a proud great grandfather to Andrew Diaz and Adrian Zamudio. Which he took immense joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren watching them grow. He took on the roll of playing Santa Clause for family and many friends since 1970's. It's a memory his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews will always have. He kept that tradition until his passing. He was always offering guidance, wisdom, love and a listening ear others. Gilbert was known to be a die hard Raiders, Lakers and Dodger fan his whole life because enjoyed sports.
Gilbert is survived by his loving siblings Lucille Valdivia, Gabriel "Lito" Marquez, and Robert Marquez with whom he shared a close bond with throughout his life. Gilbert has entered into internal life with his siblings Art"tudy" Marquez, Sophia Salazar, Marie Schaffer, Beatrice"Bibi" Negrete. Also his beloved parents Mary Louise Marquez and Gilbert H Marquez Sr. Gilbert will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gilbert's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will also be remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering dedication, the of love of sports and his giving spirit to others. This brought Gilbert great joy to his life and happiness.
