Gilbert was born June 6, 1945 in Ault, CO to Juana and Jose C. Romero. The youngest of six children, he attended and graduated from Highland High School in Ault. On June 12, 1965 he married the love of his life Margaret Martinez.
Gilbert worked as a bakery manager for Albertson's for 44 years. He enjoyed home construction projects, working on cars with his brother, pitching horseshoes, decorating for Christmas and gardening. He and his wife Margaret traveled to many places during their years together with Las Vegas being one of their favorite destinations. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially attending all of his grandchildren's programs and sporting events.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents Juana and Jose C. Romero, his siblings Manuel Romero, Art Romero, Estevan Romero and Maria Olemeda.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 58 years Margaret, son Michael (Michelle) Romero, daughter Lisa Ward, sister Maria Martinez and grandchildren Anthony Romero, Maddie Wampler, Meghan Wampler, Amanda Ward, John C. Ward, Macey Wampler and Ajay Romero as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday, May 16th at St. Mary's church in Ault. Burial will follow at the Ault Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Eaton Recreation Center – Poderosa Room located at 1675 3rd Street in Eaton, CO.
