Gilbert John Seddon was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on November 11, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born May 25, 1932, in Millington, Michigan. He was the beloved son of the late John and Ilah Seddon and was preceded in death by his older sister, Virginia Jensen (husband Donald Jensen). Gil is also survived by his younger sister, Marilyn Wells, and her husband, Charles Wells. Raised on his family's dairy farm, Gil learned the values of hard work and experienced many fond memories from an early age. A graduate of Mayville High School, Class of 1950, he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956, during the Korean War. Following his military service, Gil settled in Kalamazoo, Michigan, managing Muir's Drug Store.
On July 5, 1958, Gil married the love of his life, Patricia Johnson. In March 1959, during evangelistic services at a local church in Kalamazoo, Gil surrendered his life to the Lord, followed shortly by Pat. It was faithful neighbors, Duane and Roberta Clapp, who shared the gospel with Gil and Pat, paving the way for them to invite Christ as their Savior. Gil's path of ministry led him to attend and graduate from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, Minnesota, and later Central Seminary. While in Owatonna, Gil and Pat gave birth to their daughter, Carrie. Later while pastoring his first church, Gil and Pat adopted son Timothy.
Gil served as a pastor in New Prague, Detroit Lakes, New Ulm, and Prior Lake, Minnesota, as well as in West Bend, Wisconsin, impacting countless lives with his deep faith, compassion, and commitment to the gospel. Gil was also deeply dedicated to ministering to people of all ages, spending several years as the pastor to the Golden Agers at Fourth Baptist Church in Plymouth, Minnesota. Since 2004, Gil and Pat split their seasons between Minnesota and Sebring, Florida, embracing the warmth of both family and community in each location. For 16 years, while living at Maranatha Village in Sebring, Florida, he faithfully served in local jail and prison ministries, bringing the message of grace and hope to those in need. Known for his kind spirit and servant's heart, Gil's life was a testament to God's love and faithfulness.
Gil is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Seddon; daughter Carrie Schlottman and husband David; son Timothy Seddon and wife Angeline; grandchildren Zackary Schlottman (wife Heidi), Benjamin Schlottman (wife Tiana), Emilee Schlottman, Tucker Schlottman (wife Kerri), Hunter Schlottman (wife Lauren), Carter Schlottman (wife Anneli), Coleton Seddon, Loegon Seddon, and Jaelynn Seddon; and great-grandchildren Fjor Schlottman and Liam Schlottman.
Gil will be dearly missed but never forgotten, having left an indelible legacy of faith, kindness, and service. We mourn his passing yet rejoice in the knowledge that he is now in the presence of the Lord, whom he served so faithfully. Funeral service Saturday, November 23, 2024, 11 AM at Prior Lake Baptist Church. 5690 Credit River Rd SE, Prior Lake, MN. Visitation from 9:30 to 11 AM prior to the service.
