"Gilbert" Torres, 94, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. Born March 26, 1929 in Del Rio, Texas, the first born to Hermila T. Rodriguez, he was one of fifteen siblings. He attended school in Del Rio and was an Army Veteran. He had a strong faith and never stopped praying. Gilbert loved his family and friends dearly and will be greatly missed.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his first wife, Maria A. Torres, his son, Gilberto Torres, Jr. and his mother, Hermila T. Rodriguez.
Gilbert is survived by his daughters, Grace and Roger Gonzales and their children - Maggie and Frank Metzner, and Teresa Melissa and their grandchildren - Andrew McCoy and Callie McCoy; Gloria Torres; and Rosalind and Robert Esquivel and their children - Robert and Mariana Esquivel, Randall Esquivel, Josephine Esquivel (Joseph Nemeth) and their grandchildren – Rene Esquivel, Mia Esquivel, Sofia Esquivel, Logan Esquivel and Eloise Nemeth; his brother Roberto Rodriguez and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services:
Funeral Service for Gilbert will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, beginning with a viewing at 9am, a Rosary at 9:30am, and a Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78230. Following Mass at 11:30am, a committal service for Gilbert will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, under the direction of Mission Park Funeral Chapels North.
