Gino Cianchetti, 91, of Plainville passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, August 16, 2021 surrounded by his family. He is now reunited with his loving wife, Maria (Raponi) Cianchetti.
Gino was born on December 26, 1929 in Monte San Giovanni Campano (FR), Italy son to the late Giacomo and Assunta (Mastromattei) Cianchetti. Early life for Gino was difficult as he endured hardships of WWII along with his family as they were forced out of their home by occupying forces. It was during the hardships that he met the love of his life, Maria, and together when WWII ended, they ran a small farm in Italy that produced enough food for their family to live on. Gino also maintained a full-time job as a power utility lineman, delivering power to many remote parts of central Italy. In 1966, Gino and his wife, along with their children, immigrated to the United States and settled in Plainville. He worked for Tilcon-Tomasso and retired after nearly thirty years of construction work. Gino loved his family very much as they meant everything to him and he did whatever he could to provide for them. When his kids grew older and began to have their own families, Gino assisted in babysitting his grandchildren and enjoyed the quality time he was able to spend with them. Gino was an exceptionally skilled gardener and maintained a grapevine pergola while helping friends maintain their own. Gino carried on Italian traditions by making his own wine, bread, and canning pasta sauce from the garden-fresh tomatoes he grew. Gino was an avid bike rider who rode throughout Plainville until recently when his health began to decline. A devout Catholic who attended Sunday Mass regularly, or listened in on the radio if unable to attend, he was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville for many years. He enjoyed whistling, singing, and listening to Italian music. As a hobby, Gino would cut hair for family and friends as they relished in each other's company. A true family-oriented gentleman, Gino was the patriarch of his family and will be missed dearly.
Gino is survived by his brother, Angelo Cianchetti and his wife, Jackie, of Plainville; his son, Armando Cianchetti and his wife, Tina, of Plantsville; his son, Maurizio Cianchetti, of Southington; his son, Enzo Cianchetti and his wife, Helena, of Southington; his grandchildren, Christina (Cianchetti) Baker and her husband, Tristan, Stephanie Cianchetti and her partner, Mark Prasauckas, Michelle Perkins-Santos and her husband, Daniel, Christopher Cianchetti, Alicia Maldonato and her husband, Ben, Kaylee, Anthony, and Alex Cianchetti; his great-grandchildren, Jake and Aria Maldonato, Dylan and Lucca Baker, and Elijah Perkins-Santos; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Armando Cianchetti and his sisters, Yolanda (Cianchetti) Sciucco and Antonietta (Cianchetti) Bianchi.
Gino's family would like to extend their gratitude to Stephanie and Mark for their endless work and companionship they gave to Gino and the staff at Always There Home Care for their hard work around the clock.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 23 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 2 PM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St., Plainville. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Plainville.
