Giorgio Bertani

Giorgio Bertani, age 84, died in hospice at 4:44 PM on December 19, 2024, after living a full, happy life, though it still feels far too soon. During his two-year struggle with ALS, he faced every challenge with courage and grace, ultimately forging his own path to the very end and deciding it was his time to leave us.
We will celebrate Christmas Eve in his honor, cooking the seafood dishes he lovingly passed down to us. His love for family and his incredible talent in the kitchen were defining hallmarks of his life. Those traditions will carry on as a testament to the joy he brought to all who knew him. Having experienced deprivation and hunger in his youth, Giorgio made it his mission to ensure no one in his presence ever went without a meal.
Giorgio was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann, in 2011. He is survived by his children, Claudine and Philip; his loyal companion Sally; his daughter-in-law, Catalina; his son-in-law, Joe; his grandchildren, Joey, Francesca, Carlo, Luca, and Isabela; his sister, Rosanna (the last of the 5 Bertani siblings); his nieces and nephews, Gina, Tiziana, Carlo, Camille, Alberto, Miria and Iler; his cousin, Adriano; and his dear friends, Sal, Livio, GianCarlo, Nico and Jose.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you hold your loved ones close and cherish the time you have together. Share a meal in Giorgio's honor, just as he always loved to do. Maybe make pasta alla Giorgio, which is a red sauce with pancetta and peas. Also, please leave a story or comment about him on the memorial wall of this website.
