Giuseppa Zimbello Obituary

Published by D'Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall on Jul. 22, 2021.
Giuseppa (Josephine/Pina) Zimbello Josephine Zimbello (nee Giuseppa Tuzza), passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021. She had just turned 79 years of age. Josephine is survived by many loved ones: her 3 children ~ Giuseppe (Joe) Zimbello, Giovanna (Joanne) Capece (late Joseph Capece), Frank Zimbello (Rossella Pastino Zimbello); her grandchildren ~ Joseph Capece (Alicia Jin), Jonathan Capece (Liz Wydan Capece), Antonio Zimbello, and Alessandro Zimbello; her "adopted by heart" daughter and family ~ Sharon Elizabeth Engime, her husband Peter, and their 3 children: John (Brook), Paige and Skye. Funeral arrangements are as follows: Friday, July 30, 2021: Viewing/Visitation with Family and Friends from 9am to 10:45am, followed by funeral service/discourse at 11am, at D'Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008; Interment at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064. Josephine's Story - Born in the beautiful, picturesque town of Scicli, in Provincia Siracusa, Sicily, Italy, Pinuccia or Pina (as she was affectionately called by her family) always enjoyed nature and working with her family on their beautiful orange orchards. Never fearful of anything, at times she even went hunting there with her three older brothers. In seeking a better life for her family, Pina left her home in Sicily in 1966, at the age of 24, and emigrated to the United States with her husband and first child, Giuseppe (Joe), who was only 6 months old. She came to a land that was very foreign to her, where there was just a handful of extended family members she had never known and no friends whatsoever. However, due to her friendliness and very warm disposition, she quickly began to make friends, and soon became known as Josephine, and she loved that name. Although she missed her family back in Sicily, being such a loving and caring wife and mother, she wanted more for her family and made many sacrifices. She always worked extremely hard at home taking care of her three children. For only having gone to school up until the 5th grade, Josephine was extremely intelligent and determined. She learned to speak and write English on her own, simply by watching Sesame Street and The Electric Company with her children. She then used her determination and knowledge to help run their successful Italian imports store while still working a full-time job, and raising 3 children, which was no easy feat. Once her kids reached school age, she began working as a housekeeper at the Overbrook School for the Blind, from where she eventually retired. Those who had the pleasure of having known Josephine, have described her as follows: very kind and loving, generous, vibrant, full of life, always laughing, always helping everyone in need, working hard every day to provide a good life for her family. Although her greatest joy in life was loving and caring for her family, Josephine's other great passion was her faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Her other love was for animals ~ especially her late cats, Cocoa, Jelly and Blacky, as well as her current cats, Mr. Grey, Mia and Sheba. She also enjoyed many other things: gardening and talking to her plants; finding and trying new teas to drink; reading medical books and coming up with new medical home remedies; singing; and shopping. Additionally, she enjoyed cooking and making wonderful pizza and empanadas, as well as going out to eat and exploring new places and new stores. Of course, Sunday dinners would be very entertaining and would not be complete without some tasty desserts. Her family and friends all loved her very much and we will all miss her dearly. What a wonderful, hardworking, friendly and faithful sister she was. What a comforting thought that she is now peacefully sleeping in God's memory, awaiting the time when we will see her again in perfect health and happiness doing the things she loved to to. My prayers are with her friends and family.

Always a pleasant woman to talk to. She reminded me in many ways of my grandmother who also emigrated from Italy perhaps a few decades earlier. She was strong in her faith, trusted in God, and was kind. I will miss seeing her and talking to her at our meetings.
