He was the son of Americo Mezza and Maria Bartolino Mezza, born on The Feast of St Joseph, March 19, 1936.
He resided in New Castle his entire life, making his living as a baker at DeRosa's Bakery. In his 50 years there he made a lot of friends, and I do mean a lot. He was beloved by whoever met him. In his youth he was an outstanding Bowler. Winning many trophies and championships. Missing out of his last of many perfect games, as he told, by one pin that would not fall, causing him to settle for second. Yes, his opponent bowled 300. He was an avid Pirates fan. He loved to relate the stories of games he would ride the bus to at Forbes Field, including a 1960 World Series game. The most joy I've seen in years was his final trip to PNC, two years ago. His generosity is legendary. His kindness is a loss to all who knew him. So please, don't mourn his loss, celebrate the joy of knowing him.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, who treasured him greatly.
He was preceded in his journey by his parents, as well as his siblings, Pietro, Vincent "Jimmy", John, Angelina, and Ben.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday July 30th, at Holy Spirit Parish, St Vitus Church. Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
