Gladys Lorena Arthur 1951 ~ 2025
Gladys Lorena Arthur, 73, passed away April 7, 2025. Born in Walsenburg on August
25, 1951 to the late Edgar C. DeVan, Jr. and Lucy DeVan where she lived most of her
life. Preceded in death by husband George D. Arthur, Jr. and brother William (Willie) H.
DeVan. Gladys attended Walsenburg Schools, graduating from Walsenburg High
School in 1969. She attended Trinidad State Junior College. She lived in Vineland, NJ
for one or more years where she worked at the Green Giant Foods/Cannery. It was
there in New Jersey that she met George who then followed her from New Jersey to
Walsenburg and they were later married in May 1974. She worked at the Rambler
Restaurant, the Marlboro Inn Motel, Huerfano Memorial Hospital and she also worked at
Safeway arranging Hallmark Greeting Cards. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's
Witnesses in September 1973. Gladys had various interests and hobbies, one being
writing. She loved music, singing and dancing. She also loved teaching her younger
Siblings as well as her Nieces and Nephews the basics in reading, writing, spelling and
arithmetic (math) as it was called back in the day and always felt she should have been
a schoolteacher.
Gladys is survived by 10 Brothers and Sisters: Edgar C. DeVan, III (Conzuelo) of
Walsenburg; Sheila Ann Bell (Bill) of Vineland, NJ; Lucille L. Holmes (Milton) of
Philadelphia, PA; Ruth L. Coleman (Dennis) of Troy, MI; Shirley J. Hayes (Michael) of
Savannah, GA; Homer M. DeVan (Debra) of Thornton, CO; Karen M. McFadden
(Clarence) of North Versailles, PA; Joe E. DeVan (Brenda) of Walsenburg; James G.
DeVan (Barbara) of Las Vegas, NV; Deborah L. Inge (Fred) of Aurora, CO. She had
numerous Nieces, Nephews as well as Great Nieces, Great Nephews and Cousins.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. August 24, 2025 at Walsenburg Community
Center; 928 Russell St., Walsenburg, CO 81089.
