GLADYS R. BENTLY, age 91, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Lakeshore Inn Rehabilitation Center in Waseca, MN.
Gladys was born in Oak Park, IL on August 18, 1933, to parents Foster and Ruth (Ross) Rechel. After graduating high school, she earned a B.A. in Spanish from Purdue University. She married John Bently, and they later divorced. Gladys’s careers included working as an Licensed Practical Nurse at Highland Park Hospital, and she was also a medical courier. She met her life partner, Sylvester “Syl” Reitmeyer and they enjoyed volunteering at Boy Scout Camps and laughing through life, sometimes with red noses on their faces.
Gladys was preceded in death by Syl, by her parents, and by her daughter Ruth “Ruthie” Bently. She is survived by her children Jean Bently-Jones, Joan (Dan) Fletcher, and John (Deb) Bently, along with many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Deerfield, IL (10 Deerfield Road, Deerfield, IL 60015). Funeral services will be held after the visitation at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Following a luncheon in the church basement, interment is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville (1920 Buckley Road, Libertyville, IL 60048). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Zion Lutheran Church in Deerfield, IL.
