Dearest Gladys ("Mrs. Birmingham", RN),
We knew this day would come, but somehow, we are never really ready to say "so long for now" to someone as special as you. I will never forget my days at Bear Creek Elementary when you took care of me and many others who were sick or injured. You and my Mom were two of my reasons I became a nurse (along with countless other students who followed in your footsteps). You inspired generations of students and your legacy is far-reaching.
I was so blessed to be able to keep in touch with you over the years, and to spend so much time with you at the beach. You were always so welcoming, saying, "Come back when you can!" It was my joy, honor, and a privilege to be able to help take care of you in this last year, just as you had taken care of me in elementary school.
Praying for Bill, Mike, and your family as you let your Mom go physically, but she will always be with you spiritually and emotionally. She was one in a million and her family was her everything. She was so gracious and loving that Emily and I felt like family as well.
Rest in peace, Gladys. The world is so much better for you having been in it. Thank you for your years of military service as a Navy Nurse.
Emily and I will miss you and we thank you for your hospitality and love over the years. I will think of you whenever I eat ham salad from Pronio's, a chocolate donut, "asparagrass", Berger Cookies, chocolate milkshakes, and good ole summer tomatoes. Fun times spent around your dining room table. Fly high sweet angel!
We love you,
Donna and Emily Haase

I will always remember Ms. Gladys for her warm smile and laughter. Many great Parties with Birmingham and Quigleys. Thoughts and prayers with each of you who played a very special role in one BEAUTIFUL LADY'S Life!
I'm sure there was a welcome party waiting for your Mom with music, sing-along and some cold Beer. God Bless you all!
