Gladys M. Lacey Brown, age 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones on Friday morning, January 9, 2026.
Gladys was a lifelong Laceyville residence, born on Franklin St in the Lacey Family House to the late Arthur F. Lacey (d. February 23, 1971) and Marie Williams Lacey (d. June 27, 1972). While growing up she attended the Laceyville Area School and grew up with many fond memories of the early days of Laceyville, which she loved to share with her family throughout the years.
She had a long-time career starting out as a telephone operator at the Original Tyler Memorial Hospital in Meshoppen, PA. From there she would work at the shoe factory in Tunkhannock, before securing employment at Bendix Corp where she worked for over 36 years.
Upon retirement Gladys and her husband, the late Welles “Al” Brown (d. August 21, 2011) whom she married on November 16, 1963, enjoyed many trips to Florida and even a month-long trip across country to Portland, OR. They both loved to travel to Salamanca, NY and many trips down to Dover, DE to watch the Nascar races. Gladys loved to play BINGO and shopping at the local flea markets, and she would never pass on stopping at a yard sale.
Mom was proud of her Lacey name and that she was the eighth-generation to live on the family land which has been in the Lacey family for over two hundred years. Gladys is survived by her children; Curt Merrick, Cynthia Tesluk, Robin Brown all of Laceyville, PA, Kris Brown of Davidson, NC, and step son Kurt Brown of Lititz, PA; her grandchildren Angela Miller, Steve and Darlene Bowman, Brandy Taluba, Megan Brown, David and Laura Brown, Christen and Dalton Cooley, Breana Miller, Justine Miller, Tyler Waterhouse and Ashley Waterhouse; her ten great-grandchildren; her brother Richard and Marion Lacey of Windham, PA; her brother in-law Tim Brown of Alexandria, VA.
Besides her parents and husband, Gladys is preceded in death by grandson PSP Trooper Joshua Miller (d. June 7, 2009).
Per Gladys’s wishes a private family funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at the family cemetery the Lacey St. Cemetery.
