Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the age of 100 years. She was reunited with the love of her life, William, her son Kenny, who she sorely missed, and those that she loved that have gone before her.
Gladys was born on May 16, 1925, daughter of the late Leo Peter and Lila Grace (Pete) Nothelfer, in Hemlock. She married her high school sweetheart, William W Campbell, on January 27, 1945. He predeceased her on March 2, 2004, after 59 years of marriage. Gladys was an active and dedicated member of the Hemlock United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, played bells, taught Sunday school, and held many offices within the church. She loved to sing and one of the highlights of my life was being a member of "The Sounds of Harmony", a women's barbershop chorus. After graduating from Hemlock High School, she enrolled in a nursing program, but due to many jobs being available during World War II, she opted to work at the Gun Plant as "Rosie the Riveter". She also worked for Michigan Bell Telephone, Saginaw County Association of Retarded Children, Richland Township and enjoyed volunteering at Covenant Health Care for many years. Gladys was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are her children, Nancy (Jerry) Finney, William (Sue) Campbell, Teri Kowalke, and Thomas Campbell; grandchildren, Roger (Barb) Finney, Lori Finney, Jeff (Lynda) Sherman, John (Deidre) Sherman, Pat Sherman, Jennifer (Jon) Stepp, Michael Campbell, Brian (Cathy) Kowalke, Kimberly (Leland) Detweiler, Laura Sichta, CJ (Meredith) Kowalke, Nick (Cathy) Kowalke, Brandon Kowalke, Emily (Shawn) Dorn, Rebecca (Dave) Boudreau, Thomas Campbell, 44 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Campbell, great-granddaughter, Caroline Kowalke, daughter, Diana Campbell, grandson, Shawn Finney, son-in-law, Greg Kowalke, her sisters, Margaret, Doris (Cliff) Milbrandt, Helen (Herman) Hollerback, Mary (Alex) Basner, her brother, Rolin "Smokey" (Nora) Nothelfer, 8 brothers-in-law and 5 sisters-in-law.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Hemlock United Methodist Church, 406 W. Saginaw, Hemlock. Pastor Kenny Walkup will officiate with burial in Richland Township Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider Hemlock United Methodist Church.
