Gladys Delia Funke (Campeau) age 98, of Algonquin, Illinois and formerly of Palatine, Illinois. She was born on November 30, 1926, in Gay, Michigan and passed away at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington, Illinois on December 1, 2024.
Gladys graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in Lake Linden, Michigan. She worked as a stenographer/secretary and attended evening classes at the University of Detroit. After her marriage to Robert H. Funke on April 22, 1950, she became a home economist, best friend, mother, Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout volunteer, band booster, teacher's aide, and a member of the Council of Catholic Women at St. Theresa Church in Palatine.
As soon as her children were old enough, she began part-time work at the Elk Grove Township Community Day Care Center. During her 15-year career, her role grew to full-time work, culminating in her position as Financial Director.
After retiring from Elk Grove Township Community Day Care Center, she and Robert moved to Algonquin to enjoy the next phase of their lives. There, they enjoyed hobbies like golf, bowling, and spending time with their grandchildren. Gladys also continued her community involvement by joining St. Margaret Mary Parish Senior Club, where she served in several official positions, including president.
Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert Henry Funke; her parents, Zella and Joseph Campeau; her six siblings, Robert, Edwin, Albert, Walter, Marcella, and Blanche; and her grandson, Alexander.
She is survived by her children, Sandra (James) Benuzzi, Carol (Dennis) La Bissoniere, Robert, Jr. (Donna) Funke, Larry (Kristine) Funke, and Brian; her nine grandchildren, Tyler (Paige), Tanner (Alyssa), Tamara (fiancé Parker Gitz), Anthony (fiancée Claire Daniels), Robert (fiancée Sammy Schneider), Amanda, Tesla (Leo), and Kurt; her five great-grandchildren, Kacey, Hunter, Lesley, Ethan, and Logyn; as well as nieces, nephews, and her sister-in-law, Margaret Campeau.
Memorials may be made to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Parish in Algonquin, IL, or to Journey Care Hospice in Barrington, IL, or may be made to a charity of your choice.
