Gladys June (Stein) Laughland, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, at an age of 106, at the Inn at SilverLake in Kingston, Massachusetts. Born on June 23, 1918, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Gladys was one of eight children. Gladys joined the Army Air Force and served from 1942 to 1945. In 1944 she married the late Francis W. Griffith of Braintree, MA, who was serving in the US Air Force. Gladys is survived by 3 children, Linda Ryan of Marshfield, MA, Robert Griffith of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and William Griffith of Center Harbor, NH, including four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She married Navy Veteran Herbert Laughland and had a wonderful marriage for 22 years until his passing in 2007.
At the time of her death, she was the oldest living resident in Kingston, MA. In 2022 she received the town of Kingston's Boston Post Cane commemorating this achievement. She was very proud of serving in the War effort and honoring other Veterans. An avid storyteller, she shared her stories of her time growing up in Pittsburgh, her service in the Air Force, and standing in line and bartering for food rations during the Great Depression. She also enjoyed watching old movies, playing cards and board games with her friends. She was well known for her years of dedication for volunteering at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center while she lived in Florida. Her life was marked by a century of unique experiences, laughter and service to all that knew her.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, on August 22nd at 11:15 AM.

As Kingston Veterans´ Services Admin Asst., and MC of our 2022 Kingston Veterans´ Day Ceremony and Luncheon, it was my privilege to officially recognize Gladys Laughland as our Guest of Honor, for her WWII military service in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. On May 27, 2024, at the Kingston Memorial Day Service, Gladys participated, was applauded while aboard our Senior Veteran trolley and was acknowledged by MA Representative Kathleen LaNatra. Gladys never failed to impress all in her 106 years of living life to its fullest. Bravo Zulu, Gladys!
Rest in peace.
