Gladys M. Major (nee: Ryan), age 96, born January 6, 1928, passed away peacefully on Friday December 20,2024. Gladys was born to Ned and Loretta Ryan. She was the youngest of seven children: brothers Richard, Kenneth and Robert, sisters Jessie, Nellie and Betty all deceased. Gladys married Joseph Major on July 6, 1946, at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Although of Irish decent Gladys was active in the church being a part of Women's Fellowship and teaching Hungarian dance for the Hungarian Festivals. Joe and Gladys were well known for their dancing of waltz and polkas and working side by side together on various yard displays at their home. Gladys enjoyed time spent with family and her dear friends traveling and playing cards. Gladys lost her Joe just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. At a young age Gladys started her working career at the Rayon and after her children were of school age, she worked for the Mentor School System for many years. She is remembered by her children Gayle (Al Hughes deceased), Greg (Carla) and Jeff (Christina), grandchildren Sara (Keith), Casey, Patrick (Clare), Taylor (Ben) and Hayley and great grandchildren Isaiah, Adia, Cyril, Archer, Josephine and Vincent.
Funeral service will be held at 11am on December 28th at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 601 Plum Street, Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Friends may call from 10:00am until the time of the church service on Saturday. A private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hungarian Reformed Church or Miracle City Hospice. Services entrusted to the Potti & Marc F.
