Gladys M. Nobis, age 88, of Albers, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 16, 1937, in Quincy, daughter of the late Josephine (nee Nuessen) and Arthur Wiskirchen.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Micheal E. Nobis, whom she married on July 23, 1960, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Quincy. Michael passed away October 3, 2006. Also preceding her in death were her siblings, Orval (Evelyn) Wiskirchen and Bernice (Daniel Whelan) Feld; her parents-in-law, Leaten and Helen (McGartland) Nobis; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chuck (Kathleen) Nobis, Leaten Nobis, Jr., Richard Nobis, Patrick Nobis, Judy (Greg) Meza, and Mary Toney; her nephews, Arthur Wiskirchen, Jim Zanger and John Toney, and niece, Laura Nobis.
Gladys is survived by her loving son, Curt (Joyce) Nobis of Albers. Her cherished grandchildren, Clint Nobis, Emily (Jason) Schneider and Corie Nobis and four great-grandchildren, Bryton Schneider, Alice Nobis, Wyatt Nobis and Kolton Schneider. She also leaves behind a brother-in-law, John Toney, and sister-in-law, Carol Nobis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys grew up in Quincy, IL and graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1955. She was employed by Carson Pirie Scott & Co. as an auditor for 5 years before moving to Breese. She enjoyed working 29 years at Wil-Char Restaurant in Breese. She later opened her own restaurant, Lakeside, on Carlyle Lake in Keyesport, until it was flooded out in 2002. She loved fishing on a daily basis and playing gin rummy and bingo with her friends and family. Gladys lived a blessed and happy life. She was always ready for a good time. She was a member of St. Dominic Church in Breese.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Matt Elie officiating. Interment will follow St. Dominic - St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 9:00-11:00 AM at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese.
Memorials can be made to Curt Nobis and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is in charge of the arrangements.
