Gladys Irene Paulson, age 91, of Dassel, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center of Dassel. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel with the Rev. Dan Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at the Dassel Community Cemetery following the service. There will be a visitation on Saturday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel and a one-hour visitation prior to the service on Sunday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel. Gladys Irene (Johnson) Paulson, the daughter of Harry and Esther (Mattson) Johnson was born on April 19, 1926, in Dassel, Minnesota. She grew up in the Dassel area where she was baptized and confirmed in the covenant faith. She had been active in the Covenant Church Women and had served as church librarian, a member of the church choir and a member of a sextet singing group. Gladys graduated from the Dassel High School in 1944 and then attended North Park Jr. College in Chicago graduating in 1946. She then received her teacher degree in 1948, from St. Cloud Teachers College. On June 10, 1949, Gladys was united in marriage to Wayne Elwood Paulson at the Mission Covenant Church in Dassel. Together they made their home in Dassel where they raised their four children. Gladys had been employed as a teacher in New London, where she taught English and music. She had also been employed as a substitute teacher for the Dassel School District and later was a librarian for the Dassel Public Library. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, making jam, canning fruits, baking bread and pulling taffy. Gladys enjoyed books, children, music, and singing with the church choir. Gladys and Wayne had taken numerous vacations over the years, from camping to taking cruises, they enjoyed their 66 years of marriage. She loved her family and always would have everyone together for the holidays. She will be missed by her family and her many friends. She is survived by her sons, Timothy (Candace) Paulson of Dassel, Mark (Danette) Paulson of St. Paul, Steven Paulson of Dassel, and Michael (Tammera) Paulson of Hutchinson, eight grandchildren, Kimberly Norman, Mitchell Paulson, Annalisa Christensen, Conrad Paulson, Emelia Pitlick, Nigel Paulson, Dustin Paulson and Shania Paulson, 12 great grandchildren, Parker, Paige, and Peyton Christenson, Lilly and Claire Paulson, Mackenzie, Chloe and Ava Paulson, Molly, Mason, and Max Norman and Sterling Paulson, her siblings, Ethelyn Carlson of Dassel, Clifford (LaRene) Johnson of Dassel, Stuart (Joan) Johnson of Dassel, sister-in-law, Annabelle Johnson of Dassel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 2015, her parents, two siblings, Elmer Johnson and Lillian Wessman, brothers-in-law, Daryl Wessman and Bob Carlson.

We lived in the same house while attending SCTC.
However,she was never there weekends as Wayne whisked her away to Dassel. We renewed our friendship when I moved to Cokato and Gladys was at the library. My condolence to the family.dmz
