Kalona- Gladys Elizabeth Schlabaugh was born January 30, 1923, near Sharon Center in rural Johnson County. The daughter of Mahlon and Katie (Miller) Schlabaugh. Gladys attended Boone School in rural Johnson County. Gladys was a member of the East Union Mennonite church where she was baptized in her youth. She worked in the dietary department at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for 40 years. In her retired years, she volunteered at the Crowded Closet in Iowa City. She enjoyed spending time with family, watching clouds, sunsets and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Gladys passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 99 years old.
Gladys is survived by a brother, Emil Schlabaugh and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Idella Brenneman and Barbara Schlabach, three brothers, Ralph, Delmar and Omar Schlabaugh.
A private family service will be held. A memorial fund has been established for East Union Mennonite Church and Pleasantview Home. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for Gladys and her family.
