Gladys Thunstrom

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Thunstrom, on August 18, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with dementia and at the age of eighty-four.



She is survived by her children; Jovannis (Rud), Maria (Bob), Cliff (Kim), and Edward; by her sisters, Sobella (Dario) and Maritza, and her brothers, Guillermo (Odalis) and Escoino (Paula).

Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Nina, Cristina, Johanni, Joari, Bailey, Geidy, Johancer, Bryce, Jovanni Jr., James, Rebecca, Rock, Jovanna, and Johari; her great-grandchildren, Lucas, Mia, Valentina, and Kingston, and by her many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband of more than five decades, Harlow J. Thunstrom and by her parents, Teresa Alcequiez and Nino Acosta.



Born on June 8, 1939, in the Dominican Republic, she moved to Minnesota in 1977 and soon after opened the first restaurant in Minnesota serving Latin and Spanish food, El Meson Restaurant. She loved the restaurant business and loved to see those who visited the restaurant enjoy their meal. Nothing made her happier than making others happy and full.



She was active in church and highly active in her family's life. She loved her church, her family, her friends, and her neighborhood. She was frequently seen dancing, singing, and always smiling. Not a shy bone in her body, she loved to belly dance at appropriate and inappropriate times. Her laughter and love of life was infectious. She will be missed.
