Gladys Topp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2009.
She is forever our saint and hero as she never gave up and fought the disease head on. Her will and desire to live is to be admired by all. Gladys Topp passed away August 16, 2009 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born on December 8, 1950 in Pericos, Sinaloa, Mexico to Rita Cazares. Gladys was a loving mother who adored her children and loving husband, who stood by her side throughout her illness. Everyone was touched by her beauty, love, charm, and quick witted humor. She was a mother figure to all and her influence on people is forever remembered. She dedicated her time to helping people from the Hispanic community through the Migrant Education Program at Long Beach Unified School District to which she was devoted and received numerous national accolades. Gladys grew up in a small town in Mexico, and despite her hardships, she took care of her five siblings and mother in addition to pursuing her goals and dreams. These hardships never caused her to lose sight of her aspirations. She taught her children to be independent and goal oriented and that anything is possible. Her love for her husband endured till the end. They were united in their love and commitment to one another. She left this world knowing that she realized her greatest achievement through the success of her children. Time spent with her was filled with color, love, joy, and tears of laughter from her one- line jokes. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, John; her son and daughter who adore her, Sean and Monique; her future granddaughter Makenna; and her five brothers and sisters, Gilberto, Armida, Lucy, Alvaro, and Alma.
