Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whitt Funeral Home & Oakcrest Cremation Center on Nov. 15, 2025.
Glen Dale Coffman was born on July 16, 1933 to Broadus Buford and Mary Jewel Coffman. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Jewel McCutchen and Broadus Buford Coffman. Brother Carl Coffman and two sisters, Carol Sue Coffman and Rita Dombrosky. Daughter Machalle Algeo and two nieces, Gina Hightower and Brenda Anderson.
Dale was the first born of 7 children. He was followed by younger siblings Mary, Kenny, Rita, Carl, Tony and Laurie. He idolized his parents and family and often talked about how blessed he was with them. He had a great love of music from an early age. He was in the marching band and the concert band in high school. He had a great love of Classical music with a collection of over 200 albums. His sister Mary recalls him playing the Stars and Stripes at a concert. He had a lifetime love of that song and was particularly proud that he got to play the piccolo piece.
Dale's first job was as a paperboy with The Duncan Banner newspaper. Also in his early years, he worked for Goodner's grocery. He went on to graduate from Duncan High School Class of 1951 and later enrolled in what was Oklahoma A & M, now known as Oklahoma State, where he attended a few semesters.
He volunteered for the US Army draft at the age of 19 where he then served 4 years. Part of which he served overseas in Germany. Upon coming back to the United States, he met the love of his life Tressa Dolorez Tarrant. They married soon after in 1957 at the Tarrant household in Duncan. Soon after came their firstborn child, a daughter Tressa Machalle, in 1957, followed by a son Michael Dale in 1959. They suffered the loss of a stillborn child, Modena Kaye, in 1960 followed by the birth of daughter Tina Marie in 1964. Daughter Catherine Rene was then born in 1972. Dale worked for Halliburton for a short time before following in his father's footsteps to work for the Federal government as a soil conservationist. The family lived for a short time in Marlow, OK, then moved to Clinton, OK, in 1970 where they raised their family.
Dale's family and children were the most important thing in his life and he was SO very proud of them all. He spent a lot of time in his later years talking about his mother's cooking and how very much he missed it. He would say how he'd give just about anything to have it again. He loved talking about his childhood memories and his children whom he was so proud of. He just loved to tell his children often how very proud of them he was. "I have a very good family" he would say.
Dale had a kind and compassionate heart and loved to help others, many times donating money behind the scenes. He had a really hard time thinking about anyone doing without and sometimes felt guilty having plenty when others did not. He also had a huge heart and great love of animals. He was well known for feeding the cats in the neighborhood. At times he took some criticizing for it, but he just couldn't stand to see anything go hungry. He had a great sense of humor and a LOT of bad dad jokes. He was also a man of great faith and knew where he was going. He was unafraid to meet his maker.
Dale is survived by brothers, Kenny Coffman and wife Sandra of Alleyton, TX, and Tony Coffman of Guymon, OK; sisters: Mary Kennedy of Greencastle, Indiana, Laurie Dombrosky and husband Frank of Nederland, Texas; former wife, Tressa Coffman of Earlsboro, OK; son, Michael Coffman of Shawnee, OK; and daughters: Tina Johnson and husband Scott of Tyler, TX, and Catherine Craig and husband Richard of Bethel Acres, OK.
