Glen F. Oest, 98, of Havana, passed away at Em's Haven of Rest, in Havana, at 5:20 a.m., on Friday, June 28, 2024. He was born April 18, 1926, in Havana, Illinois, to Edward and Annie (Hagney) Oest. He married Marilyn Verla Connolly on January 30, 1948. She preceded him in death on May 8, 2020.
Mr. Oest is survived by two children: Tim Oest, and Nancy (Gary) Blakely, both of Havana; four grandchildren: Aaron (Laura) Blakely, of Clinton, Illinois, Ellen (Kevin) Mibbs, of Havana, Anna (Tyler Hodgson) Oest, of Petersburg, Kimi (Miya Oakes) Oest, of Longmont, Colorado; five great-grandchildren: Brittny (Ian Hamilton) Lindsey, of Decatur, Skye (Casey Guilliams) Mibbs, of Havana, Garrett (Haley Gilmore) Mibbs, of Havana, Josie and Jace Blakely, both of Clinton; as well as three great-great grandchildren: Kievin, Jaxxon, and River, all of Decatur. Also surviving is one brother, Robert Oest, of Havana. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward Oest, and sister Nelda Kolves, as well as great granddaughter, Jolie Blakely.
Mr. Oest was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Havana. He served in the US Army as a Quartermaster of a prison camp in Hawaii during WWII. He later served in the South Pacific on a ship during the testing of the Atomic Bomb. He was a lifelong farmer in Mason County, retiring in 1996. In 1955, he was named Outstanding Young Farmer, by the Havana Jaycees. He was a member of American Legion Post #138 in Havana. He enjoyed serving as a Weather Reporter with the National Weather Service for over twenty-five years.
Funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, in Havana, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery, in Havana. Rev. Ian Heinze will officiate. American Legion Post #138 and VFW Post #6408 will provide military rites at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mason District Hospital, or American Legion Post #138 in Havana. Online memorial messages may be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com. The family wishes to thank Em's Haven of Rest for the wonderful care given to Glen & Marilyn over the past 16 years.
