Glen Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by M. John Scanlan Funeral Home - Pompton Plains on Feb. 24, 2026.
Glen M. Thompson, 66, of Pequannock, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on February 21, 2026.

Raised in Wayne alongside his late brother, Harold, Glen graduated from Wayne Hills High School in 1977. From an early age, his larger than life personality made him someone you simply could not miss.

He built a long and respected career as an aerospace instrument maker, contributing his skill and precision to several companies throughout the years, most notably L3 Harris. One of his proudest professional accomplishments was his work on the guidance systems for the Hubble Space Telescope.

Glen married Susan West in 1995 and lovingly embraced her daughter, Kimberly, as his own. Together, Glen and Susan built a life centered on family and laughter, later welcoming two children, Kristen and Brett. His children were the heart of his world. He coached nearly every sport they played, served as an official for the Pequannock Piranhas Swim Team, and was an Assistant Den Leader for the Cub Scouts. If they were involved, so was he, wholeheartedly.

To know Glen was to know energy, laughter, and conversation. He truly never met a stranger. A quick trip to the store could easily turn into a 45 minute social event. His children often watched, equal parts amused and amazed, as their dad somehow found a life story in every checkout line. That was Glen's gift. He made people feel seen, heard, and important. By the end of any interaction, he had likely made a new friend.

Glen had a passion for the outdoors and for life itself. He loved fishing and hunting, riding his Harley (in his earlier years), cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Chelsea FC, and especially golfing, a pastime he treasured sharing with his son Brett. His lawn was always meticulous, and his flower and vegetable gardens thrived under his care, a love rooted in childhood memories of watching his parents tend to their gardens. If you could not find Glen, he was likely outside.

He was also the family's go-to handyman. If something was broken, Glen could fix it, and if he did not immediately know how, he would figure it out. Music was another thread woven through Glen's life. What began with classic rock evolved into a love for country music, a passion he happily shared with Susan.

Of all the titles he carried in his life-husband, father, coach, and friend-arguably his favorite was Grandpa. Becoming a grandfather brought him immeasurable pride and joy, and nothing made him happier than time spent with his grandchildren.

Glen is survived by his wife, Susan; his step-daughter, Kimberly Greulich and her husband Kevin; his daughter, Kristen Bergen and her husband William; his son, Brett Thompson; his grandchildren, Ellie, Connor and Mackenzie; his nephews, David and Carl Thompson; his mother-in-law, Priscilla West; and his brother in-law, Larry West. Glen was predeceased by his parents, Merle and Margaret and his brother Harold.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday, February 27 at Scanlan's: Where Life is Celebrated. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday at Scanlan's. Burial will follow at First Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains.
