Glenda Black Obituary

Visit the Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Gastonia website to view the full obituary.

Glenda Gay Black, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, peacefully departed this world on August 28, 2025, at the Stanley Total Living Center, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 17, 1942, Glenda had devoted her life to nurturing and supporting those around her.

She dedicated many years to her career at Norwesco Plastics as a Quality Inspector before choosing to retire and focus on what mattered most to her: her family. Glenda found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was camping and fishing or scouring her favorite stores for the best deals during special sales. Family and friends will fondly remember her as a great shopper, always looking for ways to surprise her loved ones.

As a fun-loving grandmother, Glenda thrived in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her daughters, Tracie Black Henry and her husband, Jeff, along with Lisa Black Bradshaw and her husband, Tim, carry forward the warmth and vibrancy she brought into their lives. Her grandsons, Jeff Henry Jr. and his wife, Megan; Josh Bradshaw; and Matt Bradshaw and his wife, Abbey; continue to cherish the memories they created together. Glenda's spirit will forever linger in the laughter of her seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Addisyn, Karsyn, Elijah, Madealine, Wesley, and Jackson, and the joy she shared with her two great-great-granddaughters, Lila and Scarlett. Her nurturing heart extended to numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom felt the impact of her unwavering love and kindness.

Glenda was an active member of the Fraley Memorial Baptist Church, where she engaged with her community and shared her passion for caring for others. Her proudest accomplishments were the moments spent with her family, creating a legacy of love that will continue to thrive through the generations.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Ralph Marr and Virley Bradley Marr; her devoted husband of many years, Billy Howard Black, who passed in 2008; and her dear sister, Cheryl Smart. Their memories remained close to her heart and will be treasured by those who knew them.

A Visitation to celebrate Glenda's remarkable life will take place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Barton officiating. Glenda's legacy of love and joy will be carried on by her family, who will forever hold her in their hearts. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Garden of Gethsemane section. Pallbearers will be Jeff Henry, Josh Bradshaw, Matt Bradshaw Wesley Bradshaw, Austin Henry, Bobby Carrigan and Elijah Bradshaw.
