BAXTER CHAPEL-Glenda Faye Burgess,78 of Baxter, was born on February 3, 1947, in Jackson County, TN, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. A devoted member of her community, Glenda had a rich career, serving as the Baxter City Recorder for 16 years and retired from Averitt Express.

Glenda was a proud graduate of Jackson County High School, class of 1965, and was well-known for her warm spirit and generous heart. She loved quilting and crocheting, often creating beautiful pieces to share with family and friends. Her passion for gardening and canning kept her connected to the earth, while her commitment to helping cook breakfast at church events showcased her love for community and fellowship. A cherished caregiver, Glenda often took care of dogs and cats, finding joy in their companionship, and she treasured every moment spent with her family and church family.

In the community, Glenda was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 152 and was a devoted member of Boma 1st Church of God, where she made lasting friendships and offered her unwavering support to those around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Roy) Brown of Rickman; her brother, Michael (Dorothy) Knight of Dodson Branch; her sister, Lula Wilmoth of Cookeville; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Paul Scott of Baxter; her grandchildren, Kacie Franklin (Jerry Sutton) of Baxter and Shawna (Latoya) Cullom of Cookeville; and her great-grandchildren, Harper, Maddox, Griffen, and Willow.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Carson W. and Sarah Lynn Knight, and her husband, Ernest Glen Burgess, who passed away on December 5, 2008.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, both at Baxter Chapel, located at 532 4th Ave. South, Baxter, TN 38544. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 1:00 PM with Bro. Tim Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Paul Scott, Jerry Sutton, Mike Randolph, Logan Harris, Scott Weaver and Dennis Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren.

Glenda Faye Burgess will be remembered for her loving kindness, strong spirit, and dedication to her family and community. Her legacy of service and compassion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
