Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Glenda Faye (Cox) Pitre at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, La.
The family requests visiting hours be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. On Thursday, April 6, 2023, visitation will continue at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary being prayed in church at 9:30 a.m.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Glenda Fay (Cox) Pitre, age 83. She passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Glenda worked as a registered nurse for over thirty years. She was "Pink Lady" at Opelousas General Health System for many years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Altar Society and Beta Sigma Phi. Glenda was a devout Catholic and enjoyed being a part of her rosary group. She loved hosting for the holidays, baking, burning the bread and Sunday BBQs. Glenda enjoyed playing Bridge, Pokeno and beating her grandchildren at cards. She enjoyed shopping at Wal-Mart, cutting coupons and watching her favorite television show, "The Pioneer Woman". Glenda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, William (Billy) Dale Pitre; her sons, Christopher Pitre and wife, Carol, Scott Pitre and wife, Darla; her daughters, Sherri Pitre Roy and husband, Kevin, Cathy Pitre Burleigh and husband, Matt and her sisters, Charlotte Cox Warren and husband, Toby, Karen Cox Siegel and husband, Halbert (Butch) and Carolyn Cox Dupre and husband, L.T. (Butch). She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Allix Pitre Garcia and husband, Ace, Grant Pitre, Ashley Joslin, Catherine Joslin, John Joslin, III, Emily Burleigh, Jared Burleigh, Brandon Stelly and wife, Kristin, Kevin Stelly, William Pitre and wife, Meghan, Amelia Pitre Fontenot and husband, Seth and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Calmes Joseph Cox and Sadie Cecile Lacour and her grandchild, Seth Soileau.
Pallbearers will be Grant Pitre, John Joslin, III, Jared Burleigh, Brandon Stelly, Kevin Stelly and William Pitre.
The Pitre family would like to send a special thank you to Gloria Guillory for taking such great care of Mom and all her needs on a daily basis over the last several months, and treating us all as family and the staff of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care and Centre de LaVie Opelousas Cancer Center for their love, care and support during Glenda's time of need.
