Glenda Mae Taylor, age 82, of Purgitsville, WV, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Hampshire Center in Romney, WV.

Born in Romney, WV on March 10, 1943, to the late Canvy A.J. Smith and Rilla Sherman (Hott) Smith, Glenda lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to her family and community. Glenda was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wendell Gene Taylor, whom she married in 1960 and who passed on July 1, 2003, her twin infant brothers, three other brothers, James Edsel Smith and his first wife Esther, Denver R. Smith, and Alfred L. Smith and his wife Lois. She also mourned the loss of her sisters, Bernice Spurling and her husband Lawrence, and Ina Widner and her husband Wayne, a son-in-law, Randy Martin, and a sister-in-law, Donna Taylor.

She is survived by her children Clark W. Taylor and wife Lori of Germantown, MD, M. Todd Taylor and wife Lori of Bunker Hill, WV and Lisa Martin of Burlington, WV; four grandchildren, Randi Shively and husband John, Sydney Taylor, Adam Taylor and wife Savannah and Madison Taylor as well as her sister Elsie Carlson and husband Bill of Purgitsville. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Roger Taylor and Frederick Neel Taylor and his wife Phyllis, all of Purgitsville; three sisters-in-law, Sylvia Smith of Keyser, WV and Ellen Smith and Cleta Smith, both of Romney and several nieces and nephews.

Glenda attended the one-room schoolhouse at Rada, WV, and was a proud 1961 graduate of Romney High School. She served the community as a dedicated employee of the Mineral County Board of Education in the lunch program, Hecks Department Store in Moorefield, and Kinney Shoes in Romney.

Glenda attended the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Purgitsville for over 70 years. Alongside her husband Wendell and children, she worked and picked apples at the Chert Mountain Orchard. She had a love for playing cards, fishing, football, and, most importantly, cooking for her family.

Visitation will be private for the family at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel.. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Taylor Family Cemetery, Purgitsville, with Pastor Debbie Nicol officiating. All family and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

The Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
