Betty Ann Runions, age 89 of Purgitsville, WV, passed away Monday morning, April 28, 2025, at her residence. Born in the small town of Coal Grove, Ohio, Betty was the cherished daughter of William Russell Chapman and Thelma Jane Bragg Chapman. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who made her mark on everyone who knew her. Her husband, Lawson Brownley Runions, Sr. preceded her in death in August 2001. A son, Kirk Douglas; brothers, Herman Chapman and Clifford Chapman and sisters, Mary Gannon and Cora White also preceded her in death. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Betty lived a full and dedicated life, by taking on the role of manager at an apartment complex and then notably spending many years working for Walgreens Pharmacy. Her warm smile and kind heart were palpable to customers and colleagues alike. She had a passion for baking that brought joy to her family and friends, filling their lives with sweet treats and even sweeter memories. In her downtime, she found peace in crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that her loved ones will cherish forever.
Surviving are two sons, John Workman and Lawson (Keith) Runions, Jr.; a daughter, Eydie (Jason) Cosat; grandchildren, Jennifer (Matthew) Jones, Kristy (Marlon) Colon, William Runions, Christopher (Katie) Bedient, Kirah Cosat and Alysa Cosat; great-grandchildren, Austin, Aiden, Ashton, Yesenia, Chase, Makayla, Mason and numerous nieces and nephews.
In honoring Betty’s life, family and friends will gather for funeral services on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel located at 107 Washington Street. Pastor D. J. Taylor will officiate the ceremony as they celebrate the remarkable life she led and the impact she had on all of them. Prior to the service, the family will welcome friends starting at 10:00 AM, providing an opportunity for shared memories and heartfelt condolences. Betty will be laid to rest following the service at Olivet Cemetery.
