Glenn R. Gotshall
Died Feb. 27, 2023
LAKE LEELANAU – Glenn Robert Gotshall, 72, of Lake Leelanau, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 at home with his family by his side.
Glenn was born on July 12, 1950 in Detroit, the son of William and Jeanne (Moffett) Gotshall. On June 16, 1984 he married Bonnie Beyer, who survives.
Glenn grew up on Orchard Lake in Michigan, where his lifelong love of boating, waterskiing, and hockey was born. He was twice an honors graduate from Michigan State University where he earned a B.S. degree in social science and an M.B.A. with an emphasis in finance. After graduating, he moved out west and worked for the Federal Land Bank in Montrose, Colorado as a specialist in real estate loans, and later as a Federal Land Bank appraiser in Steamboat, Colorado, where he met his wife, Bonnie. The two moved to Lake Leelanau, Michigan in 1983 where he continued his appraisal career, achieving the highest credentials of his profession in Northern Michigan. Eventually he started his own commercial real estate appraisal company, G.R. Gotshall & Associates.
Glenn loved the outdoors. In addition to traveling, he spent much of his time waterskiing, windsurfing, and sailing (both during the winter and summer) at his home on beautiful Lake Leelanau, which he often described as "paradise."
Glenn was an avid hockey player, sometimes even coaching the teams his son Danny played for. Glenn never stopped playing and continued to do so around the Traverse City area late into his life.
His interests were multi-faceted, and also included motorcycling, fishing, reading, listening to music, history, and restoring old cars and motorcycles.
In addition to his loving wife of 38 years, Glenn is survived by their children, Glenn (Terin) Gotshall Jr., Daniel (Julie) Gotshall, and Jamie (Chris) Gomery; new grandson Aiden Gotshall; and a sister, Susie Quinlan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lynn Green; and a brother, Billy Gotshall.
Glenn was a warm and welcoming man, often ready with a disarming joke that could make a person laugh unexpectedly. He was known and loved by his community and he will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Suttons Bay Congregational Church on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 am.
Livestream of the services may be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb_B5UJ3zjk
Memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice, 1150 Medical Campus Drive, Traverse City, MI 49684 and/or to the Lake Leelanau Lake Association, P.O. Box 123, Leland, MI 49654.
