Glenn L. Mitchell, DDS, age 89, of Waukegan, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Green Oaks Senior Living, Libertyville. He was born on December 15, 1934, in Waukegan, to Samuel and Clara (Hauserman) Mitchell.
Glenn was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School. He attended the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship. Besides playing football, he also joined the rodeo team and was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated with a degree in geology. After college, he worked for an oil exploration company and was stationed in Saudi Arabia.
Upon returning to the states, he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Pottala-Busch) and they married on August 7, 1964, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Waukegan.
After marrying Barbara, Glenn started a second career, and graduated from the University of Illinois, Chicago Dental School. Then he, along with partners Dr. Leo Janks and Dr. Edward Sarsha, formed their dental practice in Waukegan (Janks, Mitchell, & Sarsha Associates) where they practiced dentistry together for many years. Glenn remained close to many associates and patients that he had the pleasure of knowing throughout the years.
Glenn was a proud Reservist of the United States Navy. He participated in his community and was an active member of the Waukegan Planning Commission for many years. He also enjoyed his long-standing membership of the Glen Flora Country Club.
In his retirement, Glenn enjoyed traveling to forty-nine states by RV with his wife, Barbara. He often served as her sous-chef as they cooked delicious gourmet meals for friends and family. He enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and found a love for duck carving. Often using his old dental tools to carve, he became a talented wood carver. He won awards at a few contests and created beautiful, and treasured, ducks for his children and grandchildren.
Left behind to cherish his memory: daughters, Cheryl (nee Busch) Miller (Tom), Nancy (nee Busch) Minarik, Linda (nee Busch) Drozdowicz; son, Glenn S. (Michelle) Mitchell; grandchildren, Valerie (Ryan) Granfeldt, Jocelyn (Thomas) Zeitzoff, Carly (Derek) Thornberry, Brek Minarik, Robyn Minarik, Traci Minarik, Jenna (Jon) Katz, Mitchell (Claire) Drozdowicz, Dylan (Samantha Samayoa) Drozdowicz, Danielle (JB) Vaught, Samantha Mitchell, and Glenn W. (Emory) Mitchell; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister Margaret Yergler; brother-in-law, John A. (Roselyn) Pottala; many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his sister, Lois (Daniel) Roselle; brother Samuel (Margaret) Mitchell; and son-in-law, Tom Drozdowicz.
A celebration of life, to honor Glenn, will be held from 11am – 2pm on Saturday, November 16 at Austin's, 481 Peterson Road, Libertyville, IL 60048. Private interment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville.

Growing up I was a permanent fixture at the Mitchell´s house. Looking back I realize how special it really was growing up alongside such a great family. I will always remember the lighthearted, funny, practical joker that he could be. So happy I was able to spend time with him recently. There was never a time when the man could not make me laugh. I will miss him dearly. All my love to the family Lisa
