Richard Edward Busch

Richard Edward Busch was born on November 7, 1946, to Herman and Frieda Busch in Riverton, Wyoming. He was called home to be with his eternal Savior on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Richard grew up on the family farm on Riverview Road and spent nearly his entire life in the valley he loved. He graduated from Riverton High School in 1965. After attending the University of Wyoming for one year, he realized his heart belonged on the farm rather than in the classroom. He returned home to farm alongside his father and, in later years, his son.

Richard met his wife, Fredella, while working summers at Togwotee Mountain Lodge. They were married on February 24, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton. Together they were blessed with three children: son Justin, daughter Shawna, and son Spencer.

Farming was more than an occupation for Richard; it was his passion and way of life. Over the years, he raised malt barley, beans, corn, alfalfa, and sugar beets. He also enjoyed working with livestock and founded Busch Feedlot, where he cared for up to 400 head of cattle at a time and later fed more than 20,000 head of sheep per year. In addition, Richard had a deep love for horses and established a therapeutic riding program to serve children and adults with disabilities.

Richard was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he faithfully served as an usher, taught Catechism, and volunteered with the youth group for many years. During his semi-retirement, he also volunteered as an aide in the kindergarten classroom at Trinity Lutheran School. He was proud to help establish Western Heritage Lutheran Academy.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Fredella; his daughter Shawna (Tim) Rice; his son Spencer (Deana) Busch; his grandsons Seth (Amber) Rice, Dalton (Kayla) Rice, and Daniel Busch; and his great-grandchildren Carson, Elyse, and Demi Rice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Frieda Busch; his infant son, Justin; his sister, Anita Saunders; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Trinity Lutheran School.
