On February 5, 2023, while surrounded by family, Glenn F. Schoemer passed away after a short battle with illness. He is survived by many who loved him: his sons, Ryan Ian (Jessica Vanderhoof) and Justin Tyler Schoemer, both of Blairstown, his sister Lynn Libby and her husband Dan of Lumberton, NJ and their three adult children Brian, Jessica and Brittany and their families, his cousins Barbara, Kathy, Paul, Brian and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Fred Schoemer, his "brother" David Lentz, his grandmother Ernestine Grant, and his aunts and uncles.
Glenn grew up in Mountainside, NJ with his parents, sister and "brother" and attended Governor Livingston RHS where he played varsity soccer all 4 years. He received a full athletic scholarship to New England College where he started on their soccer team. He was an avid soccer player, water skier, and professional downhill skier. Glenn liked to live on the edge athletically and was able to reach amazing heights which unfortunately left some lasting physical effects on his body.
In his early years, he enjoyed boating every summer with his family and would be found with David, speeding around Barnegat Bay on water skis, swimming, or fishing off the boat with his mom, dad, and sister.
Glenn had a deep faith and was active in CYO throughout his high school years. He loved to work to raise money for his favorite charities with a heart to help.
Glenn had a deep love for all animals. In his young years he would collect snakes, frogs, turtles, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats. In his later years, he mostly focused on dogs. Rotties were his favorite.
Glenn found himself the day he was accepted into the police academy in Sea Girt, NJ. He loved being a police officer and was extremely dedicated and loved living on the edge. He joined the scuba team, search and rescue, and worked undercover narcotics in both Union and Warren counties.
He was one of the first paramedics in NJ. He started with Medic One in Overlook Hospital/ MONOC and later helped to start an Advanced Life Support program at Dover General, bringing ground paramedics to our Warren county area for the first time.
He rejoined police work at Byram Township, which led him to Blairstown Township, which led him to his final and favorite police job at Roxbury Township. There, he was able to combine his love for police work and skill of paramedicine, by helping he Chief implement the first Roxbury Police Emergency Services Unit. His professional life was epitomized one week when he saved two very special lives, one young teen in cardiac arrest and one young toddler in respiratory arrest. He never told that story without a tear and a smile.
His burning desire for family was cultivated when he and his then wife (Lorrie) had two boys. Ryan and Justin made him very happy, especially when he could coach them in TBall or soccer. He especially loved Ryan's inherited love for the sport and mentored Ryan to be a star soccer player, like he was. They travelled all over the East Coast for tournaments. Glenn loved paintballing with the boys, and even hosted paintball games for their friends.
Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of his life on Saturday February 11th from 10AM-12:30 PM at Newbaker Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, you make consider donations to The Hope Fire Department, PO Box 170, Hope, NJ 07844

Deepest sympathies to all of Glenn´s family. I often rode with him at Medic 51 and 71 (when they were called that).

So very sorry for you loss. I did not know him very well and had just spoken with him a few weeks ago.
