Montpelier, VTGlenn Arthur Smith, born August 9, 1932 in Woodsville, New Hampshire, he was the son of Richard Smith, and Ruth Labounty Smith. Glenn attended Middlesex Village School, and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1950. He was a member of the 43rd Division of the National Guard, and was activated in September of 1950, after a year in Virginia, he served in Munich Germany. Glenn returned from overseas in July 1952.
Glenn went to work for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Southington, Connecticut. He married Madeline Lareau and moved to Essex Junction, Vermont where he worked for Green Mountain Power as a Hydro Electric Plant Operator for 7 years. During that time three beautiful children were born, Tyrone, Scott and Holly. Glenn worked as a Credit Manager for the DeGoesbriant Hospital for one year. His marriage ended in divorce and he and his three children moved to Middlesex.
In 1962, Glenn and his mother Ruth purchased a Credit Bureau and Collection Agency in Montpelier, later another agency in Burlington, where they also operated a Repossession Agency.
On July 25, 1968, Glenn married Lillian F. Benoit in Montpelier and in 1969 and 1971 they were blessed with two sons, Patrick, and Michael. In 1972 Glenn went to work for the Fire Prevention office of the Vermont State Department of Labor and Industry, retiring in 1996.
Glenn served as President of the Vermont Businessmen's Credit Association. Glenn also held the position of President for the Burlington Retail Credit Association and New England Fire Marshalls Association. Glenn was Vermont's Representative to the National Association of State Fire Marshalls. He was a member of the Vermont Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, member of the Capital Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, member of the Aurora Lodge #22 F&AM, and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.
Glenn passed on August 16th and was predeceased by his oldest son Tyrone, who passed on August 14th of this year. He is survived by his wife Lillian, his son Scott and his wife Julie, their sons Kyle and Shane; his daughter Holly Gavin, her son Corey and daughter Karla, and granddaughter Riley; his son Patrick, and his son Nicholas and daughter Courtney; his son Michael and partner Megan and his 2 daughters Alexandra and Peyton.

A grave side ceremony will be held on October 22, 2023 at 11:30 at Pinehurst Cemetery in South Ryegate, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001. Checks should be made payable to "Alzheimer's Foundation of America."
A gathering will be held directly after the ceremony at Seyon Lodge State Park 2967 Seyon Pond Rd, Groton Vermont, all are welcome.
