Glenna Neily Obituary

Glenna Hayes Neily

Sunapee, NH - Glenna Hayes Neily, 89, a lifelong resident of Etna, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH.

Glenna was born in Etna, NH on December 15, 1935, to Ethel (Elder) and Morris Hayes. She attended the Etna Village School (K-8) and graduated from Hanover High School in 1954.

On October 8, 1960, she married Lewis "Joe" Neily at First Baptist Church of Hanover (Etna).

Glenna worked for Carter & Churchill Co. for seven years before starting her own business. She worked out of her home for 30 years sewing slipcovers and draperies. In the past year, Glenna continued to enjoy sewing and making pillows to share with family and friends.

As a young girl, Glenna took part in 4-H and worked her way up to become a 4-H Club leader. In her later years, she volunteered as Co-President of the Skating Club of Dartmouth.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, hunting, fishing, camping, and working in her flower gardens. She and Joe loved traveling and took several memorable trips, one to Alaska through Canada and Washington State and another to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland.

In addition to her parents, Glenna was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joe; brother, Frank Hayes, and sister-in-law, Alice; sister, Earlah Swift, and brother-in-law, Fred.

Glenna is survived by her daughter, Rose Grenier; son-in-law, Chuck; sisters, Cora Moses, Maxine (George) Wallace and Norma (Ken) Pelton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Glenna's family would like to thank the Sunapee Cove Assisted Living community, Lake Sunapee VNA & Hospice, and the Jack Byrne Center for their loving support and care of Glenna over the past year and half.

Family and friends are invited to a 1pm graveside service at Hanover Center Cemetery, Etna, NH on Monday, October 27, 2025. A reception will follow at Trumbull Hall, Etna, NH.
