Gloria A. Baptista

Gloria Ann (O'Brien) Baptista, 85, of New Bedford, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin and friend. Gloria passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, February 16, 2024. She was married to the love of her life, Joseph T. Baptista, for over 56 years.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Thomas and Gloria (Barcellos) O'Brien; she lived in New Bedford all her life. After graduating from New Bedford High School, she worked in the Clerk's Office for the City of New Bedford until her son was born.
Gloria enjoyed summers on Cape Cod, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved being in the kitchen cooking or baking for her family. Gloria's friendships encompassed all aspects of life, and each was special to her. From phone calls to family gatherings, to sharing meals and entertaining, to class reunions and to helping in times of sadness and difficulty.
Survivors include her husband; her son Joseph T. Baptista Jr., and his wife Ann Marie of Taunton; her grandchildren, Joseph T. Baptista, III and Kathleen M. Baptista; and one great-grandson, Sebastian James O'Brien.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, February 22nd at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, February 21st from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.act.alz.org
