GLORIA DALY

DALY, Gloria Patterson, of Charlottesville, Va., went home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2012 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born Gloria Ann Patterson on March 28, 1924 in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Carolyn Gurnee Patterson. She graduated from Garden City (N.Y.) High School in 1942, and attended Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Va., before working briefly for Doubleday Publishing in N.Y. Mrs. Daly was married to the late William A. Daly Jr. and following their retirement to Virginia, enjoyed many years at Lake Monticello and Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville. She is survived by her loving children, William A. Daly III (Carol), Sean M. Daly (Ellen) of Richmond, Va., and Tara Daly Ranson (Jerry) of Ft. Mill, S.C. Also honoring her memory are eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous friends from Garden City and Lake Monticello. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Daly Linebrink; grandson, Patrick Thomas Daly; and sisters, Carol Hubbell and Lyn Heins. Mrs. Daly was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church in Garden City and more recently Sts. Peter and Paul in Palmyra, Va. She and her husband were members of Cherry Valley Country Club, The Garden City Casino, The Cotillion Club and the Lake Monticello Beautification Corps. She was a gracious hostess, an avid tennis player, dancer, and a volunteer for many organizations throughout her life, but her family was most important to her. Visitation will be Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 31 at the Chapel in Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge, Charlottesville, Va. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westminster Canterbury for their loving care, especially in recent years.
