Gloria “Dee” "Deegan" Fischer

Gloria Ann "Dee" Fischer, age 88, died on July 22, 2025 in Bowie Maryland.

She was born in New Castle Pennsylvania on August 9, 1936, the daughter of the late James and Hazel(Quillen) Deegan.

Dee was the youngest of three; her late brothers were James and Robert Deegan. Dee is also preceded in death by her husband, Roger M. Fischer.

She is survived a son Eric Fischer and his wife Maureen of Wexford, PA and by her two daughters, Julie Smith and her husband David of Bowie, MD, and Joan Fischer DePhilippis and her husband Rick of Spring, TX. She has six grandchildren, Tyler & Victoria Smith,Maximillian & Sebastian Fischer, and Nick & Ricky DePhilippis. She has six great grandchildren, Otto & Theo Fischer, Rhett & Ozzy Smith, and Bailey & Colton DePhilippis.

Throughout her time as a mother in Erie, Dee made sure her house was 'the' gathering spot for the neighborhood where everyone felt at home. Dee supported her children's scouting efforts long after they themselves aged out by retaining the title of Cookie Captain which resulted in their home becoming a fortress of cookie boxes for years. Her cooking skills were legendary in that Dee only could, successfully prepare three dishes; she renounced all further kitchen attempts upon Roger's retirement and never cooked a meal again!

Although her last years were consumed with dementia, she retained her connection to her faith via the dedication of her friend Julie Sauer who ensured Dee attended her weekly mass. Her family is deeply grateful for these outings as they maintained Dee's relationships with her church community.
