Gloria Aldridge Hampton

During the morning hours of Friday, September 5, 2025, the Great Physician healed Gloria Aldrige Hampton's body after several years of declining health.

Gloria was born on March 3, 1954, to the late R. Venson McElroy and the late Thelma Swayngim McElroy. A native of Haywood County, Gloria was a member of the 1972 graduating class of Tuscola High School. Throughout her working career, Gloria's helpful and friendly voice became very recognizable when calling Anderson Auto Parts in Waynesville or Haywood Regional Medical Center in Clyde. Her genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed her path.

Gloria loved with her whole heart and felt life with profound depth. Throughout her 71 years, her physical body and soul endured much over the years, and her life was far from easy, but Gloria always made certain that those around her knew of her deep love for her cherished family and friends. It always seemed as if Gloria had a gift for making others feel special- like you were the most important person in the room. She worked tirelessly throughout her life to keep her family connections and relationships strong and alive. Gloria truly understood the importance of family.

Her legacy is one of grace, strength, and love. Gloria will be deeply missed, but her beautiful spirit will continue in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind. She will be missed beyond measure, remembered beyond words and beyond time.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Roger Aldridge and Roger Hampton; her brothers, Jimmy, Charles, and Dale McElroy; and her sister, Anne Gibson Smiley.

Surviving are her sister, Janie Sorrells, and her husband, Gary, and their family, including Amy Riggs, Joey Sorrells, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved and cherished as her own, as well as many special friends she deeply loved.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the ICU staff and also the 5 th floor staff of Haywood Regional Medical Center for all their special care and concern shown to Gloria.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor her life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Reverend Keith Turman will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park in Waynesville.
