Charles Keith Chambers, born December 2, 1949, in Waynesville, North Carolina, to Theodore and Mary Louise Chambers, passed away peacefully at home November 24th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Charles grew up in Waynesville and was a proud 1968 graduate of Tuscola High School. He continued his education at Western Carolina University, where he played collegiate football. Charles loved coaching in Haywood County and is still known by many as “coach”. As a member of Rescue Baptist Church, Charles loved to sing in the choir and to teach Sunday school. Charles devoted twenty-five years of service to BASF and retired from Haywood Builders Supply and Builders First Source.
Charles found great joy being outside, where he spent countless hours hunting, fly fishing, and gardening. Charles loved to reload his own ammunition and tie his own flies. He spent most of his life teaching and including his children and grandchildren into these hobbies.
Known for his humor, generosity, and humility, Charles brought light and laughter to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His dedication to his family, friends, and community will be remembered and cherished forever.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Gwen Chambers, his daughter Kelli Chandler (Kenny), his sons Chad Chambers (Cynthia), Justin Queen (Myra), and Todd Chambers (Natalie), along with twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Debbie Chambers. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore “Ted” Hargrove Chambers and Mary Louise Davis Chambers, and his brother Philip (Karen) Chambers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow the services at Green Hill Cemetery.
