Gloria "Jo" Holland Henry, 77, of Mobile, passed away on April 13th,
2024 after a long illness.
Jo was born on January 26, 1947 in Clinton, LA to William Haney and Wilma Day Holland. She attended Davidson High School, class of 1965 where she was voted most popular. She was a member of the Special Chorus, Delta Beta Sigma sorority and was the sweetheart of Phi Kappa Sorority. She was a dedicated Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician working in Mobile and Tampa, and she was the owner of Sunday's Tanning Center and Boutique in Destin, FL, before she retired. She enjoyed traveling, and her hobbies included cooking, gardening, and she was an accomplished portrait and landscape artist.
Jo married Charles Richard "Dick" Henry on a sailboat in the Destin Pass at sunrise on October 3rd, 1989. As an international airline pilot, he made sure they traveled the world together.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents William and Wilma Holland. She is survived by her husband, Charles "Dick" Henry; her children Larry Sims, Jr., Stacey (Tommy) Overstreet, and Michael Lumpkin, Jr.; grandchildren Leigh Taylor, Lance (Rayne) Taylor, and William Cole Vanderheiden; great grandchildren Layla Taylor and Jozey Taylor; and her sister Patricia (Noel) Mareno.
Visitation will take place at Mobile Memorial Gardens from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The Rosary will be said at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Mobile on Thursday, April 18th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in memory of Gloria Henry to Mayo Clinic for lung transplant research. Donations can be made by phone, online, or by mail.
