Gloria J. Herrera passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Born on April 19, 1950, in Lorain, Ohio, Gloria lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family and friends.
Life and Family
On May 8, 1971, Gloria married Ramon Herrera at Nativity BVM Church, Lorain, OH, beginning a loving partnership that would span over five decades. In 1974, Gloria and her family moved to the west coast, where they made their home in El Cajon, California. After more than a decade, the family settled in Nevada in 1986, where Gloria would spend the rest of her life surrounded by those she loved.
Career and Passions
Gloria worked as an accounting and finance clerk for Boyd Gaming until her retirement in 2019. She found joy in the warm desert climate and was known for her avid love of reading. Gloria delighted her friends and neighbors by baking homemade cookies for the holidays, a tradition that brought warmth and cheer to those around her. Above all, she cherished time spent with family and friends.
Surviving Family
Gloria is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Ramon Herrera of Henderson; her daughter, Jacquelyn Herrera of Henderson; and her granddaughter, Alexa Runkle of Henderson. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan (Tom) Keenan and Loretta (Darrell) Jones, both of Florida; her brothers, Ray (Cathie) Sobieski of Colorado and John (Debbie) Sobieski of Ohio; and
several nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In Remembrance
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Mary (Sklarek) Sobieski. Her memory will live in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Memorial Service
A memorial service will be held at Star Mortuary 6484 Boulder Ranch Ave., Henderson, NV 89011 on January 20, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. where loved ones will gather to honor and celebrate Gloria’s life.
