Gloria Eleanore Marie Iverson, 97, passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 24, 2025, surrounded by her family at the Oak Meadows Senior Living community, Oakdale, MN.
Gloria was born on November 30, 1927 to Miner and Margaret (Roth) Peterson on the East Side of St. Paul. She often shared stories of growing up on Margaret Street on the East Side with her parents and grandmother, Josephine. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church grade school and St. Agnes High School, staying in contact with her classmates for decades. Gloria was married to Kenneth John (Bud) Iverson at Sacred Heart Church on February 19, 1949, and they remained together until Bud's passing on October 14, 2004.
Gloria's life revolved around the church. She was the choir organist at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church (now Blessed Sacrament) on the East Side for many years and volunteered at St. Thomas the Apostle grade school. From 1970 to 1975, Gloria, Bud, and sons lived out in New England, a period of time Gloria greatly enjoyed, and was an organist for the South Acton Congregational Church in Acton Massachusetts. Upon moving back to Minnesota, Gloria and Bud settled back on the East Side and became active members of "the little French church," St Louis King Of France Church, in downtown St. Paul. Gloria sang in the choir in the early days and later worked in the church office, finally retiring at the age of 90.
Gloria also worked for Ames Elementary School on the East Side in the 1960s, for the Digital Corporation in Maynard, Massachusetts in the 1970s, before settling in her "dream job" working in the office of Plumbers and Gasfitters Local Union 34 in downtown St. Paul. She loved "the guys" in the office, as well as all the other union hall office workers. Gloria enjoyed years as a member of the "Sewing Club" in her East Side neighborhood, as well as a long-time active member of her "do-gooders club," Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA).
Gloria cherished spending time with family, especially birthdays and holiday get-togethers. In later years, she greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, telling family stories and laughing. Gloria was always on top of current events, and was not afraid to express her opinions, to the delight of her family and friends.
Gloria is survived by her sons David (Boni) Iverson and Steven (Jo) Iverson, grandchildren Kelsey (Igor Yakushev) Iverson, Melanie (Joseph Eisaguirre) Iverson, and Emily (soon-to-be husband Benjamin Pelle) Iverson, great-grandchildren August & Eloise Yakushev, step-grandchildren Adam Rodelius and Kristine (Caleb) Knox, many loving cousins and friends, including her bonus Goddaughters "the Wakefield girls" and good friend Joane Buche. The family especially thanks the staff at Oak Meadows Senior Living and HealthPartners Hospice for their wonderful and loving care.
Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at St Louis King Of France Church, 506 Cedar St., St. Paul, with visitation starting one hour prior at the church. Interment at Union Cemetery, Maplewood. Reception will immediately follow the burial.
In lieu of flowers, Gloria would appreciate a donation to "The Father Paul Morrissey, S.M. In Memory Of John Nasseff Endowment Fund", in care of:
