Gloria Boyce Markward passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28th, 2025, at the age of ninety-four.
She was born the youngest of twelve children in the Olney section of Philadelphia. As a child, she loved to dance, especially tap, and performed on the stage at the Willow Grove Amusement Park. At Olney High School, she met the love of her life, Francis Markward, and the high school sweethearts were married after finishing high school, and began a life of raising many children, first in Olney, and then in Ardsley, in Abington, where they moved in 1986 and remained the rest of her life.
She is predeceased by Frank in 1995 and her second son Daniel in 2013. She is survived by her children: Francis, Kathleen Esmond (Robert), Gail Quinn, Eileen Hagan, Gloria (Rocky Owens), John, Stephen (Michelle), and Megan (Sean Doyle). She is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her fierce but funny wit, her nostalgic stories, and her ability to burst into song, most especially the songs she used to rock the family babies to sleep.
Family and friends are invited to Gloria's Life Celebration on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 2316 Fairhill Ave, Glenside, PA, 19038, from 9:30AM until her funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
