Gloria May Matter went to be with our Lord on Monday, December 4, 2023.
Miss Matter was a teacher of hearing-impaired children in the Cincinnati Ohio Public Schools, Green Bay Wisconsin Public Schools and Shorewood Wisconsin Public Schools. She earned her Bachelor degree from Milwaukee State Teachers College and her Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
She was a member of several professional organizations and served in a variety of capacities. She contributed articles to professional magazines and authored a chapter in a book on Mainstreaming Deaf Children into Regular Classes. She was a presenter at state, national and International conferences and conventions. The Shorewood Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children received the Alexander Graham Bell Association National Oral Program of the Year Award. Miss Matter was the recipient of the Teach of the Year award from the North Shore Exceptional Education Cooperative.
Miss Matter was a life-long member of Lutheran Memorial Chapel, Shorewood, Wisconsin until she retired to The Villages, Florida where she joined Hope Lutheran Church.
She was a volunteer for Operation Shoebox and knit sweaters, helmet caps and baby caps for charity organizations.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Edward Clark, Grand Rapids, MI, three nieces: Anne (Kevin) Kruger, Muskegon, MI, Susan (Glenn) Shelton, Costa Mesa, CA, Mary (Michael) Cook, Grand Rapids, MI, four grand-nieces, five grand-nephews, six great-grands, Mary (Bob) Gaulin, and many friends.
Service and committal will be on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Chapel of the Flowers, 13235 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield, WI.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
