Gloria Marie Patzner, 87, passed away peacefully on June 10th, 2022 at her home in Palm Harbor with her five children by her side.
Gloria was the third daughter of Mabel and Edward Vermette of Amesbury, MA. She was born on July 12th, 1934 and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Newburyport, MA before attending Mansfield Beauty Academy in Boston, MA. While living in Boston, Gloria met Eugene Joseph Patzner on a blind date. The two had a whirlwind romance and subsequently got married on May 30th, 1957 in Amesbury, MA. They celebrated a good life and a long marriage of 62 years until Gene passed away in 2019.
Gloria presided over a hectic yet very happy home in Hopewell Junction, NY with her husband, Gene, and her 5 children. She was a loving wife, an incredibly strong mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Gloria was head cheerleader in high school and she continued her enthusiastic cheering throughout her life for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She nurtured, loved, comforted, guided and sometimes embarrassed her family (cowbells at basketball games?). She was our biggest fan and our quiet strength. Family was everything to her.
After successfully shepherding her 5 children through high school, Gloria started a second career in retail, eventually advancing to a Service Manager position at Sears Roebuck. She was also a longtime investor and religiously kept up with the news, politics, and the weather.
While Gloria enjoyed raising her family up north, her dream was always to move to Florida. She got her wish when she and Gene retired to Highland Lakes in Palm Harbor where she enjoyed water aerobics, Bocce Ball, volunteering at the Teddy Bear Club, attending concerts, and socializing with family and friends. Her home was her pride and joy. She loved doing projects, decorating, and working in her beautiful garden which faced the golf course. She was a regular, loyal customer to "The Vets" Thrift Store, garage sales, and Taco Bell (she owns the stock). She enjoyed endless sunny days in Tampa Bay!
Gloria is survived by her sister, Elaine Fowler, her 5 children: Linda and her husband Arthur, Michele and her husband David, Karen, Glen and his wife Catherine and Eddie and his wife Laura, her 18 grandchildren: Michael, Adrienne, Nicholas, Thom, Johnny, Alicia, Catie, Josh, Brendan, Chelsea, Joe, Lisa, Erik, Nick, Avery, Trevor, Emily, and Collin. She also survived by her 12 great grandchildren: Malvina, Jack, Sadie, Luke, Nora, Olivia, Maeva, Torey, Bennett, Dean, Lucy and Clara. She is also loved by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at her wake from 6 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, June 15th at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, 1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, FL. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 16th, 2022, at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 2757 Alderman Road, Palm Harbor, Fl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Empath Suncoast Hospice at website https://suncoasthospice.org/donate/
