Gloria Pearson Obituary
Gloria Gail Pearson, 97, of Sycamore, Ill., passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, DeKalb.
Born Jan. 20, 1925, in Elgin, the daughter of Myron and Eunice (Willand) Lehman, Gloria had a wonderful childhood where she excelled in school and was an accomplished trumpet player placing second in an Illinois music competition. After high school, she worked as a teller at a bank and went on numerous vacations with friends. During WWII she joined the Cadet Nurse Corps Program and received training to work as a nurse in a local hospital while the more experienced nurses went overseas to the war. She then worked as a nurse in Dr. Allerton's office in Elgin. It was a dream of hers to marry a farmer. She went with some friends to the Blue Moon Dance Hall in Elgin to a single farmers' event to meet one. She did find one, Warren Pearson, and they married on Dec. 26, 1952, in Elgin. Warren and Gloria were able to go on an exciting honeymoon driving cross country to Pasadena, Calif., to see the Rose Bowl Parade. Then they flew to Hawaii. This honeymoon was made possible due to the sale and sacrifice of a few pigs which Warren had sold.
Settling on their farm on North Grove Road in Sycamore, they raised chickens, pigs, cows, crops, and most importantly their four children, Bill, Chris, Janet and Barb. Gloria was a wonderful mother and wife. Recently she mentioned that getting married and raising four children were the crowning achievements in her life. They were active members of Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore, where Gloria sang alto in the choir. They also took the family on numerous camping trips around the country, using camping equipment that was obtained by saving S&H green stamps from the grocery store. Gloria fully supported her children in school, as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and other activities.
Gloria worked as a nurse in Dr. Lindeen's office, a lunch lady at Sycamore High School, and a librarian at the Sycamore Library for 10 years until she retired. After Warren passed in 1994, she continued living on the farm. She enjoyed living on the farm with all the beauty of the various plants, flowers, and birds.
Gloria is survived by a son, Bill (Elaine) Pearson of Arizona; two daughters, Chris Pearson of Nevada and Barbara (Victor) Allen of Winfield; six grandchildren, Neal (Becky), Craig (Kelsey), Justin, Britta, Jaron and Carlos; seven great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Ruby, Zoey, Will, Piper, Sloane and Mila; her brother, Donald; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Warren, in 1994; daughter, Janet, in 2020; grandson, Nathan Pearson; and siblings, Richard Lehman and Janis Ward.
A Memorial Service and Burial will be held in March 2023.
