Obituary of Gloria Lee Whisman
Gloria Lee 'Sorrell' Whisman, 87, widow of Gene Whisman, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022. She was born in Midway on August 22, 1935 to the late Charles Albert and Clara Adams Sorrell. She retired from State of Kentucky, where she proudly served multiple State Governors, and in her words helped them keep their books straight. She was the head accountant for the state of Kentucky for over 25 years, and was very passionate her career. She was an active member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church. She served for many years with the Civitan Club, which serves individual and community needs, with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. Gloria was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel on June 8, 1994, by Governor Brereton Jones. She loved collecting McDonalds Toys for the purpose of donating them to the Shoebox Ministry through her church. Gloria loved to travel. Sometimes alone with her husband Gene, and many times with her sisters and nieces and nephews. She loved her family, her church, her friends, and her community.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Whisman, Bloomfield; her sisters, Ida Abner, Georgetown, and Brenda (Walt) Upchurch, OH; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who were like her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Hendren, and her brother, Sidney Sorrell.
Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd with Rev. Todd Lester officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shoebox Ministry at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church.
