Gloria Wojick White, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, a dedicated educator and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025. Born on April 26, 1934, in Bronx, NY, Gloria graced the world with her presence for 90 years.
Gloria's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to education and her profound love for teaching. Earning her BA in Education from Gallaudet College and her MA of Education from Western Maryland College, she further pursued a 6th Year Administrative Certificate from Southern Connecticut State University. With these accomplishments, she embarked on a distinguished career as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hearing Impaired within the Norwich Connecticut Public School System. God graced Gloria with the special gifts of being a teacher, and throughout her life and career, she always loved teaching children.
Her passion extended beyond the classroom, as she was deeply involved in American Sign Language Adult Education and co-founded the Sounds of Silence, an organization dedicated to performing American Sign Language versions of songs. As the appointed Chairperson of the Connecticut Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Commission by former CT Governor Ella Grasso, Gloria devoted herself to advancing the lives of those with hearing impairments.
A woman of many talents and interests, Gloria found joy in painting, playing card games, reading books, and creating art. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren.
Gloria was preceded in death by her loving husband, George R. White, Jr.; her adored granddaughter, Victoria Lynn Kornosewicz; and her parents, Walter Wojick and Bertha Becker. She leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her daughter, Leslie Kornosewicz and husband Walter of Southern Shores, NC; her son, George R. White III and wife Deborah Rotondo of Weatogue, CT; and her grandchildren, Caila Rotondo White, Tara Rotondo White, and Timothy George White. She is also survived by her sister, Marian Sciacchitano and husband Frank, as well as nieces Stacey and Dena Sciacchitano.
A private graveside service will be held at St Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd, Willimantic, CT.
Gloria's light shone brightly in the lives of those she touched, and her legacy will be remembered with admiration and love.
