Mrs. Glynda Smith Tate age 86 of Parsons, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Greencrest Assisted Living.
She was born March 28, 1939, in Medina to the late Andrew Alvis Smith and Mattie Mae McLemore Smith. Mrs. Tate married the late James Ralph Tate in 1956. They owned and operated IGA now Parsons Save A Lot from 1977 until 1997. A devout Christian, Mrs. Tate was always involved with church and willing to assist in numerous activities, classes and missions. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and formerly First Baptist Church and was extremely active until her health declined. Mrs. Tate loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her only sibling, Marian Bartlett.
Survivors include three children, Jimmy Tate and wife Carolyn, Danny Tate and wife Caroline all of Parsons and Renee Bankston and husband Dwain of Jackson. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Brandy Tate Maness, Amanda McCormick, Brandon Bankston, Andrew Tate, Tyler Tate, Allison Bankston and Jenna Maxwell as well as fourteen great grandchildren, Hunter Maness, Landon Tate, Ava Tate, Jada Tate, Peyton Tate, Ryder Tate, Jaxx Tate, Averi Tate, Talan McCormick, Atlanta McCormick, Presley Drew Maxwell, Tate Wesley Maxwell, Maddox Bankston, Nolan Bankston and Emma Long.
Serving as pallbearers are Andrew Tate, Peyton Tate, Tyler Tate, Hunter Maness, Brandon Bankston and Maddox Bankston.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Tate will be conducted on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of Oakdale Decatur County with Bro. Tracy McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. The Tate family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.
